Having decided to join fellow enthusiasts on the Drive It Day run, I and two passengers had to drive about 50 miles to the starting point. Being a hot day we had to stop repeatedly due to overheating, I didn’t force the car as I knew both the car and passengers were flagging which called for a stop to take on a couple of pints in a pub. During the day the car ran well but we must have put in a similar amount of water three or four times and I was concerned, the rally was 50 miles and we had another 30 miles home even then all seamed o.k. Until I checked the car the next day to realise I had been very lucky not to have done serious damage to the engine. The head had turned from Red to Black and the top hose had almost melted.
I was fortunate enough to have met Andy Bailey and subsequently Rob Cooper on this year’s Drive It Day. Andy and Rob came round the following Saturday and removed the radiator and cylinder head, cleared all the water ways and had it up and running in less than 4 hours after a thorough job. I am indebted to them both for coming to my aid in my hour of need.
MY THANK’S AGAIN to Andy and Rob.
